| TRADITIONAL LEAD CLASSES |
This class will be held over an eight week period and will include rope management, knot tying, anchor building, piece placement, route reading skills, emergency procedures, and an outdoor seconding experience at either Pilot Mountain and/or Moores wall. After completion of the class the students will have a better understanding of the sport of traditional rock climbing and its origins. We will be using our gym facilities to allow our students to practice their newly learned skills while on top rope belay for maximum safety.
This course will be offered as an introduction to the sport of traditional lead climbing and should be used as a starting point for each students outdoor adventures. Traditional lead climbing is inherently dangerous and needs to be approached with the utmost education and training. After completion of this course the students will be better able to recognize proper techniques and safe procedures while seconding other climbers. It should be noted that persons who complete this course will still need many hours of seconding more experienced lead climbers before they will be ready for the challenges of their first lead climbs.
